Oh, just a typical day in San Miguel

Hola! This is Ruth.

There was a huge celebration in San Miguel today. It started with fireworks at 6:00 in the morning and all the church bells were ringing. There weren't colorful fireworks, but they sounded like a bomb exploding! Then, later in the day we heard more fireworks and drums, so we decided to go outside. Just as we got outside, the most amazing parade started right past our house! Try to imagine Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but Mexican and no crowd, so it is right in front of you! At first it was at least a dozen groups representing different tribes wearing traditional ceremonial / war clothing from before the Spaniards came, dancing and beating huge, very loud drums. Then, at the end there was a band of clarinets and trumpets with larger-than-life puppets dancing and spinning in circles. If you can't imagine that, look at the pictures to help you.

It was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it was the best parade I have ever been to. I can't even imagine what Dia de los Muertos will be like here!
