Mardi Gras is a big deal around here. Even though the official "Fat Tuesday" is more than a week away, the parades have begun all over the city. The way it works is you wave and shout, "Throw me something Mr." and then wait for all sorts of beads and goodies to come your way.

Across the street from us was the old state capitol building and this amazing tree the kids couldn't resist climbing.

Of course the parade had more than just masked men on horseback. There were also bands, dancers, floats, and of course enough beads to share.

How fun! We went to the parade in Holland when we went to visit where Aunt Heather was born but it was so cold that everyone wore long underwear and thick costumes and did their best not to slide on the ice.
