We went to Antelope Island with Debbie, Oliver and Teddy after helping her move a few pallets with our truck and helping her with a few other quick things like mowing the lawn and setting up the trampoline. It was hard to get Lucy, Reuben and Ruth to leave, they were having so much fun. Antelope Island, however, was everything and more than we expected. Bison, beautiful views of the Great Salt Lake, fun kid activities, fun hikes and perfect weather. This time Daniel and I didn't want to leave. Everyone had a great time. (It was especially cute to see Oliver and Ruth pal around together like great friends.)
Later on in the week we spent a few days in southern Utah, Kodachrome Basin, camping. We enjoyed hiking a small slot canyon and off roading on a beautiful mountain trail to get there. The slot canyon had a small stream of water we hiked through and Lucy and Reuben did a great job keeping their feet try hopping from one side to the other along the trail for about the first 5 minutes. Thank heavens shoes dry much faster in Southern Utah than in Louisiana!
This next shot is of the road we took to get to the slot canyon. The views were as spectacular as the hairpin curves were bone chilling.
The first night we cooked pigs in a blanket and canned soup. After a few experiments we figured out how to toast things just right and had a very delicious dinner. That night Daniel, Tess and I slept in the back of the truck while Lucy, Reuben and Ruth kept warm in the 4-man tent. The stars were incredible.
We ended our campout with two or three hikes near our campsite. I think I finally realized why my mom practically begs my dad to drive through Southern Utah on their epic road trips. Kodachrome Basin is only a few miles away from Bryce Canyon and had many of the same spectacular rock formations. Simply breath taking! We all had fun on our hikes, Lucy leading the way most of the time. Reuben adding Cairns to the trail.
