Afton Villa

Today we went to Afton Villa Gardens in St. Francisville.  The gardens are all that's left of a mid-19th century plantation; the home burned down in 1963.  Everything was beautiful and many of the flowers were in bloom.

It was also the annual Audobon Pilgrimage weekend, which meant that we were able to visit The Homestead, a living history village not far down the road from Afton Villa.  We enjoyed the delicious cornbread...

the soap making, spinning, blacksmith, and woodworking demonstrations...

and the fried cracklins, because, yum, Louisiana.

Springtime is a great time to be here!

  1. This reminds me of Wunderlich Farms at Doerre Middle School. Except we don't have the beautiful flowers at the farm, just the neighboring homes, do.
